The Last Episode of Top Gear's Companion Show hosted by Top Gear Co-Presenter Rory Reid until 2019 quietly came to an unexplained end just before series 27 of Top Gear with New Hosts Paddy McGuinness and Freddie Flintoff kicked off.
Many viewers wondered why the show was let go of quietly in 2019 with little to no explanation by the BBC as to why this happened after stating in a previous article a few weeks after the main shows 26th series ended that Rory Reid will remain part of the Top Gear family.
However given the current climate and the 29th Series of Top Gear coming ever so slowly around the corner and with The main show moving channels for it's 29th series; the question remains, is now a better time than ever to bring back the show that was once so loved by many Top Gear fans when it first launched on BBC Three in 2016?
My guess is yes, now is the perfect time to bring Extra Gear back for a fifth run in a new home on BBC One given that Top Gear wants to broaden its audience and open the show to a newer generation of fans; something Top Gear of Old couldn't do because they thought that moving Top Gear from BBC Two to BBC One would be a mistake if it were to happen under the watchful eye of Clarkson and Co.
Having the show start its fifth series on BBC Three when the Show returns with Series 29 later in the year would give the companion show a possible new lease of life on a brand new channel and would thrive to be as successful as the main show on BBC One.
Possible hosts for Extra Gear
Many Names were thrown around when Clarkson was given the boot by the corporation in 2015 until it was revealed that Chris Evans would take hold of the flagship show, unfortunately his stint did not last long and he left after one series.
Of the names that were thrown around were Paul Hollywood (GBBO), James Martin (Saturday Kitchen) Jodie Kidd and Guy Martin. So if Extra Gear was to return for Top Gear Series 29 which of the above presenters would you like to take lead? alternatively let me know in the comments on our Facebook Page other suggestions that you would have for the role.
